For photographers the quality, type, direction, strength and even colour of light defines their style of photography. For some they diffuse the light to produce a soft ambient glow. Others prefer the drama of a strong direct light which casts defined shadows. I have recently fallen in love with the silhouette style of Maternity portrait – this is achieved by positioning Mum-to-be in front of a window or other light source and overexposing the background so that her form becomes a silhouette. This is a popular method for maternity photography as it emphasises the Bump and creates drama with the high contrast between the foreground and background.
